Restoration and Rebuild of Original Vintage Carburators
Jim McGowan
Jim began working on his various cars in high school in 1956. His cars included a ’48 Mercury, ’40 ford, Model A, and a ’33 Ford Coupe with a rumble seat. When he bought his ’76 corvette in 1988, he began to autocross and had to rebuild his carburetors. He read many books to learn how to modify and adjust his carbs. Upon joining the Corvette Club, he was the “go-to-guy” for carb adjusting. And there his business began and grew! In the following years, his days were spent as a construction electrician and in his spare time he attended car shows, swap meets, and conventions across the country traveling with his 1995 Chevy Wagon pulling his trailer containing displays and shop cores. Of course, he couldn’t resist buying any cores he laid his eyes on which resulted in over 1000 cores. Maybe he has your numbered carburetor! At this time he has probably done a carb for every state in US plus Canada, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, England, Japan, and Puerto Rico. Having good health and having a clean life, he is still very active in the car world restoring and selling his carbs plus rebuilding his own classic cars.
